Sebastião Theodoro Paulino da Silva, nicknamed Ranchinho is a unique case in Brazilian painting. With no contact with the world of established art, physically and mentally challenged he expressed himself in a language of uncommon beauty, spirituality and meaning. He established a bridge to the world at large with his art, first with drawings, then with gouache and finally later in life arriving at painting. He lived in the countryside in the state of São Paulo where he died in 2003 shortly before turning eighty.
