Vitoria Basaia is one of those rare “raw art” artists of Brazil. She uses items from nature (paint materials made of clay from the Chapada dos Guimarães on the outskirts of Cuiabá) or recycled rejects i.e. pieces of wood found on the streets, cans and plastics. Basaia creates surprising forms which are witness to her immense talent. Her themes involve aspects of poetic femininity like maternity, the sense of protection and sexuality.
